Red Hot Chili Peppers (also sometimes shortened to "The Chili Peppers" or abbreviated as "RHCP") are an American funk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 for which we stock a number of rare and collectible posters.

Formed as a one-off ​“joke” all the way back in 1983 by vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael ​‘Flea’ Balzary, guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have produced some superb posters for their various singles and albums, a number of these posters are now very rare and collectible which we sell exclusively online here at The Original Poster Shop.

The group's musical style primarily consists of rock with an emphasis on funk and elements from other genres such as punk rock and psychedelic rock.

Due to commitments with other bands, Slovak and Irons did not play on the 1984 self-titled debut album, which instead featured guitarist Jack Sherman and drummer Cliff Martinez. Slovak rejoined for their second album, Freaky Styley (1985), and Irons for their third, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987). Sadly, Slovak died of a drug overdose on June 25, 1988; Irons, devastated by this, left the band.

New recruits Frusciante and Smith joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers and together recorded Mother's Milk (1989) and their first major commercial success, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991).

3 years later, Frusciante was uncomfortable with their newfound popularity and left abruptly on tour in 1992; he was replaced by Dave Navarro, who appeared on the group's sixth album, One Hot Minute (1995). Although successful, the album failed to match the critical or popular acclaim of its predecessor.

According to Kerrang, the foundations were rooted in the punk-funk of bands like Defunkt and Contortions were built on with elements of the emergent alternative rock genre, while personal experiences with addiction and the 1988 death of Hillel bled a darkness into their sound.

At their best, the Red Hot Chilis became capable of striking stylistic shifts quite unlike anyone else.

Red Hot Chili Peppers posters are one of the best-selling bands of all time with over 80 million records sold worldwide and have been nominated for sixteen Grammy Awards. In 2012, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
