Once in a generation a band comes along that shapes the destiny of a music genre for decades. In the case of Metal music, that band is Metallica. Storming on to the scene in 1981 as a powerful thrash metal machine Metallica soon became trailblazers for the Metal genre as a whole, bringing it out of the shadows and into mainstream society. A third of a century later and 120 million album sales later, James Hetfield and co still reign as metal kings supreme worldwide.
St. Anger is the eighth studio album, released on June 5, 2003. It was the band's last album released through Elektra, with nearly six years between the release of Reload and this album.
The St. Anger sessions mark the only time Rock actually played when the music was being recorded, filling in for the departed bassist Jason Newsted.
