On 10 and 11 August 1996, Oasis played two nights at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire to around 125,000 people a night, some 250,000 in total. Around 2.5 million people applied for tickets. It was the biggest moment of the Britpop era, and the original poster that advertised it is one of the most sought-after pieces of Oasis memorabilia we stock, along with the original car stickers.
The poster
The Knebworth poster is a lithographic print at 60 x 40 inches (152 x 102 cm), the large outdoor format used on bus shelters, station walls, the Underground and airport concourses. It carries the concert details as they were advertised in 1996, and was produced by the record label for the promotion companies to send out to sites around the country.
Ours are originals from that run. They are supplied machine folded, exactly as they were originally sent out. If you would prefer it rolled and sent in a tube, add a note to your order.
The support acts
The Knebworth weekend was a festival in its own right. Across the two nights the support included The Charlatans, Kula Shaker, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and The Bootleg Beatles.
The car sticker
Among our original Oasis stock we also found a small number of the Knebworth car window stickers from the same campaign. They are reverse printed to go on the inside of a window. While they last, one comes free with every original Knebworth concert poster, and they are also sold individually.
Original or reprint?
Because the original is so large, collectors often asked us for a smaller version. We now make a first-generation reprint at 30 x 20 inches, taken from our original litho posters and supplied rolled. It is clearly labelled as a reprint. If you want the real thing from 1996, choose the 60 x 40 inch original.
Displaying it
At over 1.5 metres tall, the Knebworth poster needs a big wall and makes a real statement. Two easy options:
- Snap display rails. Aluminium rails that clip to the top and bottom of the poster and hang from the wall. We sell them in the 60 x 40 inch size, and you can add them on the poster's page.
- A professional framer. For a permanent display, a framer can make a frame to size. Ask for UV-protective acrylic if it will hang in a bright room.
Before buying, measure the wall: the poster is 152 cm tall and 102 cm wide.
