Marc Almond first began as part of duo Soft Cell but also had a diverse career as a solo artist. Collaborations included a duet with Gene Pitney on the '89 number one single "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart". Almond was a big fan of Bolan after hearing him on The John Peel Show, buying a T. Rex single as a result and followed everything Marc Bolan did. It was his obsession with Bolan that prompted him to adopt the Marc as opposed to Mark as the spelling of his name.
