Original Nirvana poster promoting 2002 album

As the Seattle grunge scene emerged in the late 1980's one band established themselves head and shoulders above the rest. The threesome consisting of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, were known collectively as Nirvana.

Upon the release of their standout album, Nevermind, in 1991, Nirvana were immediately catapulted into mega-stardom. Since the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, Nirvanas legend has continued to grow, with total album sales topping 75 million as of 2014. In July 2014, Nirvana were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, forever ensuring their status as immortal rock gods.

This Nirvana poster was used to promote a "best-of" compilation album by the American rock band. It was released in October 2002 after a well-publicised legal battle won by Cobain's widow, Courtney Love.

Nirvana the album was released following settlement of a long-standing legal dispute between Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. Much of the dispute was around the song "You Know You're Right" recorded during the band's final studio session, in early 1994. Novoselic and Grohl wanted to release it on a long-delayed Nirvana rarities box set. However, Love blocked the song's release, and maintained that "You Know You're Right" was a "potential 'hit' of extraordinary artistic and commercial value." She believed that "You Know You're Right" would be "wasted" on a box set, and instead belonged on a single-disc compilation similar to The Beatles'.

In September 2002, it was announced by the Nirvana camp that the lawsuit had been settled, and that "You Know You're Right" would be released on "Nirvana, a one-CD history of the band." This poster is the one that promoted this iconic album.

An iconic and minimalist Nirvana poster for fans of both the band and the late, great Kurt Cobain.

FAQs

Are Your Posters Original?

Yes — all of our posters are 100% original promotional prints from their respective release periods. Many date back to the 1990s and early 2000s, with some still preserved in their original paper wrapping.

Are Your Posters Reprints?

No — our posters are original prints produced during the 1990s and early 2000s using the traditional offset printing method, known for its bold colours and consistent quality.

Modern reprints are typically digitally printed, which can vary in colour and finish. Under magnification, offset printing reveals a distinctive rosette-style dot pattern, while digital prints appear more random.

Please note: we do stock a small selection of 1st generation reprints, which are always clearly labelled within the listing description.

All of our posters are stored in a clean, dry, and dust-free environment. Many are kept laid flat for preservation, while others remain carefully stored in their original rolls - ready for a new home.
